Circumpolar in the southern hemisphere, ranging from the Antarctic continent and ice edge (around 78^o to 38^oS). Occur in South Pacific, South Atlantic, and Indian Oceans. The most northerly strandings are from the mouth of Rio de la Plata, Argentina and from the Kromme River Mouth, South Africa.
