We really don't know where giant squid live. We know they live in the deep sea. We know they must be quite hidden because we have never seen one alive. No one has ever seen a living giant squid in its natural habitat. And it's only recent research that has indicated to us where this habitat might be. It is in the deep sea, perhaps between 200 and 1000 meters in depth, and it is possibly in association with the bottom of the sea. Not necessarily in mid-water. On the other hand, specimens that have been captured in nets sometimes come from mid-water. So I think giant squid live just about wherever they want to in the deep sea.
