In partnership with Discovery Communications, Inc., BBC-Natural History Unit, and the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research in Wellington, New Zealand, the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History has an unprecedented opportunity to explore the deep sea once again.

The expedition will be filmed and principally funded by Discovery Communications, Inc. both at sea and ashore at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research in Wellington, where several specimens are available for our research. A number of private donors also have provided financial support, including education partners, Rachel Carson Middle School of Fairfax County, Virginia.

Further, through NASA-John C. Stennis Space Center Education office and the Commercial Remote Sensing Program's sponsorship of the Museum of Natural History's Natural Partners Program, thousands of students and teachers outside the Museum and across the world will have access to the exciting processes of this expedition and many others to come.
