We spent the day today preparing the DEEP ROVER for its first deep dive of the expedition. As you might imagine, there is a tremendous amount of work that needs to be done to make this happen. The submersible crew led by Jeff Heaton has been working tirelessly to make sure all the equipment is functioning properly as the safety of the crew and equipment is essential.

Since we decided to attach a tether line, video cameras, and fiber optic cable to the submersible for the purpose of sending back video images to the scientists aboard the KAHAROA it increased the amount of time it took to make sure everything was working properly. I am sure you are all familiar with Murphy's Law... Well when you are in the field on an expedition this Murphy character is an ever present and usually unwelcomed participant. Nonetheless, we worked through the technical glitches and were successful in making sure everthing was set for our first dive tomorrow.

Let's hope Architeuthis is ready to have his picture taken.
