A Virtual Tour of the NMNH: Dinosaurs
Allosaurus

Allosaurus

145 million years old, Late Jurassic
Colorado

What did this dinosaur eat? The strong jaws and sharp teeth are giveaways: It was a flesh-eater. The large size of its head and jaws relative to its body indicate that Allosaurus was able to attack animals like the plant-eater Stegosaurus that rivaled it in size. This specimen is one of the most complete Allosaurus skeletons ever mounted in a museum.
