Mesopotamian Writing
Ancient Mesopotamians inscribed this figurine with Sumerian script, offering
a prayer to the goddess Inanna. This early Mesopotamian writing system,
known as cuneiform, was remarkably complex with more than 3,000 characters.
Some represent whole ideas and others only syllables. The figure represents
Rim-Sin, king of the city of Larsa, ca. 1800 B.C.
