Saber Toothed Cat

Smilodon Fatalis

Smilodon fatalis
This big cat was built to ambush its prey. With its short, heavy limbs and long, sharp teeth, it could spring and then stab or break the neck of prey larger than itself. About 14,000 years ago, this particular animal became mired in the tar pits of Rancho La Brea, California, a source of more than 200 species of Ice Age animals.
