Japanese Samurai Armor

The Emperor of Japan presented this suit of armor to Theodore Roosevelt in 1905. Beginning in the mid-17th century, Japanese society was divided into four strata, the highest of which was the Samurai, warriors who lived by an exacting code of honor. The helmet dates to 1532-1555 and the face mask was made between 1800-1854.
