Our Science

Our Research

Seven departments: Anthropology, Botany, Entomology, Mineral Sciences, Invertebrate Zoology, Paleobiology, and Vertebrate Zoology, comprise our wide-ranging interdisciplinary programs that bring together scientists from across the United States and the world to address important research questions. These questions are related to the formation of the Earth and similar planets, the diversity and evolution of life and human diversity and cultural change.

Our Collections

The Museum had grown to become the steward of the world's largest natural history collections, which include more than 126 million objects and specimens. To view our collections online visit http://collections.mnh.si.edu/.
