| Hector’s beaked whale is known from the South Atlantic, the South Pacific, and the Indian Ocean off South Africa, which made cetologists (scientists who study whales) think it was a Southern Hemisphere species, but since 1981, several strandings in California have indicated that the species also lives in the Northern Hemisphere. Information about the animal is very limited.
