Prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus)
On the open prairie, the prairie dog escapes extreme weather and predators by living in intricate underground tunnel systems. These small mammals have evolved sharp claws and strong legs for digging, and long body shapes that can squeeze through narrow tunnels.
