From snow-capped peaks to deep, shadowy valleys, China’s mixed montane forest shelters many unique mammals. Snow may last from November to March, summers are cool and rainy, and the steep mountainsides are divided into distinct belts of vegetation. Such variable conditions have yielded remarkable diversity.
