Little red flying fox (Pteropus scapulatus)
Carried aloft by flapping wings, bats are the only mammals that truly fly. This flying fox is equipped with a narrow tongue for sipping flower nectar and large claws on its thumbs for gripping fruit. It may cover several thousand kilometers a year to follow blossoming eucalyptus trees. Unlike most bats, flying foxes use their excellent eyesight and smell to find food.
