Hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius)
One of the world’s largest land mammals, the hippopotamus weighs up to nearly 4,500 kg (10,000 lb). With no hair on most of their bodies, hippos could easily overheat in the sun. So during they day, they protect themselves by staying in or near the water, feeding on aquatic plants. When night begins to fall, they lumber onto land to eat grass and other vegetation.
