White-tailed
Deer (Odocoileus virginianus)
In the North American
temperate forest, many mammals give birth in the spring when
food is abundant. Only a few days old, fawns nibble tender spring
buds, twigs, and shrubs. A fawn’s spots help camouflage
it in the dappled light of the forest.
