This mask may have been worn by a member of a secret men's society in Prince William Sound, the aqlat, or "winds". It was one of seven that were taken from a cave in Prince William Sound by the Alaska Commercial Company in 1875, and sent to the U. S. National Museum (Smithsonian Institution). The Smithsonian repatriated this mask to the Chugach Heritage Foundation in 2000.
