Man's Cap - More Info - Where From
Circular skin caps were everyday wear for Alutiiq men in the 19th century. In style, they reflect the blending of traditions. The shape was Russian, but the decorations were Alutiiq: strips and cutouts made from dyed sea lion esophagus and decorative stitching in caribou hair, sinew, and yarn. The leaf and petal designs may have been inspired by European embroidery.
