Dance Belt - More Info - Where From



Naqugun / Woman's dance belt. This belt was part of a “set of bead ornaments worn by the Ugashak [Ugashik] belles” that William Fisher purchased in 1881. This set also included a headdress, choker, necklace, and earrings. The belt is made of soft caribou skin, and ornamented with glass trade beads and brass rifle cartridges. The stitching is of fine sinew thread. The ties were for fastening the belt at the waist.
