Spirit Mask - More Info

This large mask has a whistling mouth and the pointed head of a kala’aq spirit (called an íyaq on Kodiak Island). It was one of seven taken from a cave in Prince William Sound by the Alaska Commercial Company in 1875, and sent to the Smithsonian Institution. It was repatriated to the Chugach Heritage Foundation in 2000.
