Large Mask - More Info - Where From

Gínaquq / Mask. Large masks hung from the ceiling of the qasgiq (ceremonial house) during the winter hunting ceremonies. Dancers moved behind them, or pushed to make them fly across the room. Holes around the edge of this mask once held wooden ornaments, feathers, or a hoop. The mask’s weathered appearance suggests that it came from a cave or crevice, where masks were often stored.
