Halibut Hook - More Info

Iqsak / Halibut hook. Halibut are large fish that sometimes weigh hundreds of pounds. A halibut hook was held down by a stone weight so that it floated near the bottom of the sea. The opening of the hook was just wide enough for a fish to put its mouth over the bait. A strong line made of seaweed ran up to the surface where it was tied to a blown-up seal stomach. When this float was pulled underwater the fisherman knew a halibut was on the hook.
