Whaling Darts - More Info - Where From

Ulukahsút / Whaling dart blades. Alutiiq whalers coated the stone blades of their weapons with a poison made from the root of the monkshood plant. The poison was not strong enough to kill a whale directly, but could paralyze its tail or flipper and cause the animal to drown. When a dead whale was found, often two or three days later, markings on the blade identified the hunter who had made the kill.
