Harpoon - More Info

Until the early 1900s, Alutiiq hunters used harpoons to kill seals and sea lions. This heavy bone harpoon has a sharp blade made of polished stone. It was placed on the end of a long wooden shaft (not shown). The shape of the harpoon made it twist beneath the skin of the animal so it would not pull out.
