Hoof Carving - More Info

This carving from an archaeological site represents the hoof of a caribou. Caribou can be hunted only on the Alaska Peninsula, and villages there used to trade caribou products (hair, skins, clothing, antler) to other parts of the Alutiiq region where these animals do not live.
