Exhibit: Treetop
Opera
Opening - Friday, April 30, 2004
Ground floor, Discovery Center Lobby
Treetop Opera takes a celebratory
and educational look at the periodical cicada emergence of
Brood 10 this spring. The display will include a case, located
outside the ground floor cafes, seven large close-up photos
showing the cicada's life cycle arranged along the walls,
and intermittent broadcasts of cicada recordings from past
years.
Among the items intended for display are: a
drawer of specimens from Natural History's Entomology department
from different emergences and representatives of the three
species that will emerge this year; an enlarged photo of
the underside of a cicada to show what parts make all the
noise, and a jar of nymphs collected from the last emergence.
