A preserved specimen of a larval
deep-sea black dragon fish (Idiacanthus).

***Note that the eyes are at the ends of long stalks.
Having the eyes off the head would greatly increase the field of vision of the larva, which may be advantageous in locating prey or detecting potential predators.
