Horseshoe Crabs

First Place - Other Wildlife - Professional, National Wildlife Awards

Delaware Bay, Delaware, USA

by Steve Greer

Lumberton, New Jersey, USA

“In this ancient ritual that predates the dinosaurs, thousands of horseshoe crabs emerge from the water to spawn in the pre-dawn light. The timing of the moon cycle, tides, sunrise, and weather, are important elements in making this photo possible. I took three exposures, then blended them to emulate a three-stop graduate filter.”

Canon EOS 5D; 17mm lens; digital capture.
