“I was photographing close-ups of aspen trees when I turned and saw a storm approaching. I then began focusing on the drama unfolding in the valley. The lighting conditions, overcast afternoon, brilliant foreground shaft of sunlight, and ominous, dark background storm, made this scene challenging. It all came together when the lightning flashed in the sky.”
