Pterosaur (TAIR-oh-sore)

Pterosaurs were flying reptiles -- not birds or flying dinosaurs -- whose wings were formed from flaps of skin, muscle, and other tissue. The wings stretched between the legs, trunk, arms, and a very long fourth finger. Their distinctive foot and hand prints are preserved in rocks near Washington D.C., showing that they lived here during the Cretaceous.
