Dig It! The Secrets of Soil
Opening July 19, 2008, this new traveling exhibit will take visitors on an exploration into the exciting world of soil. Did you know that there are more creatures in a shovel full of soil than human beings on our planet. Dig It! will journey into the amazing and complex world of soils—hidden under our feet but teeming with life. The exhibit is a new look at this complex ecosystem that sustains every form of terrestrial life, even our own. Learn more about the exhibit...
Volunteer with us!
Dig It! needs volunteers who will ‘dig deep’ into the soil and inspire visitors to think about this hidden world in a new way. Discover Cart volunteers, using artifacts and specimens from the Museum’s collections, guide visitors through brief, problem-solving activities at carts (mobile study stations) that introduce visitors to simple observational and interpretive techniques and skills that scientists use to gather and weigh evidence. Exhibit Host volunteers introduce visitors to the organization and themes of the exhibit, help visitors find specific artifacts and specimens, and answer questions about soils by utilizing the exhibit itself. All volunteers help visitors explore, discover, and interpret the exhibit.
