The Office of Education & Outreach regularly engages in research and evaluation activities to more fully understand the museum’s audiences and the ways they use and benefit from onsite and online experiences.

Research is conducted from the perspectives of multiple theoretical and conceptual frameworks and employs a variety of qualitative and quantitative approaches. Individual studies include front-end identification of audiences and their needs, evaluation of the impacts of websites, online experiences, and museum programs; research on perceptions and needs of museum audiences; and impact of programming approaches on learning.
