Discover Stations

Discover Stations are mobile carts positioned in selected exhibits, where groups of eight to twelve visitors come face-to-face with object-based, problem-solving opportunities and experiences. Museum docents make use of specialized objects - animal coverings, bones, fossils, minerals, rocks, teeth, and cultural artifacts - to introduce simple observational skills and interpretive techniques that scientists use to gather and weigh evidence and draw conclusions. Activities focus on concepts and topics presented in nearby exhibits and take about five minutes to complete.
Discover Stations are generally available in selected exhibits on Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to noon, unless otherwise noted in the monthly Discover Stations Schedule: Activity titles followed by (A) are presented from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon and those by (P) from 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.
A brief description of each activity, along with its location in the Museum by Floor and Exhibition, can be found in the Discover Stations Activity Guide. Activities are listed alphabetically by theme: Ancient Cultures, Dinosaurs, Fossils, Human Origins, Mammals, Rocks and Minerals.
