African Voices

African Voices examines the diversity, dynamism, and global influence of Africa's peoples and cultures over time through family, work, community, and the natural environment. Included are historical and contemporary objects from the Museum's collections, as well as commissioned sculptures, textiles, and pottery. Video interactives and sound stations provide selections from contemporary interviews, literature, proverbs, prayers, folk tales, songs, and oral epics.

For the Classroom

Middle and high school students and their teachers can search the online collections of the NMNH Department of Anthropology, including African objects. For photos of artifacts and objects, use the advanced search option to narrow your search to entries with pictures.

The exhibition homepage is an excellent source for learning about African history and culture. It also includes a learning center, with links to additional online resources.
