[Photo] SUNFLOWERS

Sunflowers originated in North America, and were used by the Natives of Central and North America to make oil. It was introduced to Europe in the 1500's.

The seeds of the sunflower are rich in protein, and they produce a high quality oil which is often used to make margarine and cooking oil. Sunflowers can grow as high as 15 feet. There are also dwarf sunflower plants that will only grow 2-3 feet tall, too.

One sunflower head can produce up to 1,000 seeds!
