Strawberries are native American plants. The strawberry plant is a low
growing perennial, (plant which grows from year to year, without being re-seeded)
which produces new plants by sending a "runner" from an already
existing plant to a new location. Strawberries have been hybridized to grow
larger fruit, and so that they can be grown in many more parts of the world. Most
strawberry plants bear fruit in the spring, but one variety, "the everbearing
strawberry" bears fruit in both the spring and the fall.
