SQUASH

Squash is native to South America. The name "squash" comes from askutasquash, an Indian word meaning "eaten raw or uncooked". Squash is grown in home vegetable gardens, but it is not an important commercial crop.

There are two kinds of squash: Summer Squash, which is grown on bushes, and Winter Squash, which can be grown on either vines or bushes. Squashes are highly nutritious in vitamins A and C.
