The Hidden Life of Ants - Photo Gallery

Progtomognathus americanus & Temnothorax sp.
The darker ants (Protomognathus americanus) have raided the nests of other ants (Temnothorax sp.) for slaves who will do all the work of maintaining the nest, caring for the young, and gathering food. Since these workers cannot reproduce, the slavemakers must continually raid other nests for more slaves. Photo © Mark W. Moffett/Minden Pictures
