Manifestations of the Spirit
Main Phyllis Galembo Mãe Stella

Exu - Mischievous Messenger

Phyllis Galembo:
I have a personal affinity with the trickster Exu, and I love the way he is represented and the forms of the altars themselves. The faces make the spirit come out of very earthly materials. They are visually very soulful and intense—brimming with energy and life force.

Mãe Stella:
Exu is communication, beginnings, movement, and the trigger of situations. I do not understand why anyone would want to photograph an Exu altar. It is a sacred, intimate place of spiritual connection.
