Jocenaide Andrade Barbosa as Oxóssi, lord of forests, Salvador, 1987.
The powerful priestess Olga de Alaketo chose to dress up two of her grandchildren
as Ogum and Oxóssi, spirits who are brothers. The boy (first photograph)
was an Ogum priest and the girl (second photograph) an Oxóssi priestess.
The religion is a family affair.
Ogum is a pioneer, a warrior, the lord of the roads. He stands for truth and
transformation. He is the deity of the hunt. His brother Oxóssi, also
a hunter, tracks game and is the master of mysteries and secrets.
