I began work at the Genetics Lab in December of 2001. Having come from a background in forensic DNA analysis, it has been interesting to apply many of the same techniques to very different questions. Since my arrival at the lab, I have worked on many interesting projects aimed at answering questions of evolution and population structure and dynamics in a wide variety of species including both birds and mammals. I had the opportunity to study biodiversity conservation in East Africa in 2001 as a part of my masters degree. It has been exciting to apply my lab experience to wildlife and conservation-related research at the Smithsonian’s Genetics Lab.
